TODAY: Roses and Thorns, Feedback on 20's test, Not So Quick Write, Election of 32, Bank Holiday, Give a Man a Job.

Here's the setup on the writing: in ch. 31, sec. 3 (p.396)the text describes Pres. Hoover's response one way, while "Myths of the Great Depression" (p.4) describes his response differently. NEXT: review the sources, then Write a TOPIC SENTENCE comparing these two points of view. Add two quotes, one from each source as evidence for the contrast.

1932 Election Hoover Vs. Roosevelt

F.D.R First Inaugural Address

It is March 12th, 1933. You have been unable to get money out of the bank for the last week. President Roosevelt ordered a "Bank Holiday." He ordered all banks close their doors temporarily because there was a "Run on the banks" (Many people went to withdraw their money from the banks at the same time.)

What questions do have for the President of the United States concerning this bank closure?

Write three questions down in your notebook with a few lines between each question.

While listening to President Roosevelt's "Fireside Chat" listen to see if he answers your questions and write them down. Write down at least 2 other questions that come to mind as you listen to this address.
